Interview with an UNICAMP’s Electrical Engineering student
By: Batista, Valdiney Mauricio
Graduate student talks about his experience at university.
School of Electrical and Computer Engineering - UNICAMP
Valdiney: What semester are you currently attending?
Student: Last semester I attended the 7th course period. Currently, I'm undergoing an exchange program and my registration at UNICAMP is locked.
Valdiney: Why did you choose this course?
Student: Because I had always liked science, particularly Physics and Math. I wanted to get to know more about those subjects, and I enjoyed it very much because electrical engineering is an ample course.
Valdiney: When you compare your point of view about the course before and after taking it do you think your opinion about it has changed?
Student: It changed, of course. Actually, in spite of the fact that I had a lot of information about the course, I only started living the experience for real after entering the course and then I could really figure out how it works and what it really means. Before I did not know that it was divided into areas such as “power”, “telecommunication”, “electronics”, “control” etc. I had sort of notion, but it is just after you see what you have to study and do in those areas that you understand what it is.
Valdiney: What are the principal contents of this course?
Student: Calculus, matrices and complex numbers.
Valdiney: Which professional career in this area can you follow after college?
Student: Engineering is a broad field. Electrical Engineering has different branches as well, and besides that, electrical engineering course at UNICAMP provides a general formation in the area. In other words, unlike other universities, at UNICAMP we have seen several subjects within Electrical curriculum and we don't focus on only one area. Because of this, I can assert, without fear, a FEEC's engineer might work in many areas.
But, responding in an objective way, I would cite these areas:
- Academic (professor / researcher)
- Executive (sales manager or entrepreneur, for example)
- Technical (work in industry as an engineer in the strict sense of the word).
